For Fun

Do you read Portabellopixie?

I do.

And when I saw her Saturday Market Skirt tutorial, I knew I wanted one!

Isn't Sandis' adorable!

I am thinking I want to make another one. Next time I will use more fabrics. The skirt isn't hard, just a little time consuming. After all, there are a lot of squares!

So if you feel up to it, head on over to Portabellopixie and try it out. The Saturday Market Skirt is under the free projects on the right side.

Happy Sewing!

Jack and Jill Hat Pattern

As soon as I got this pattern in the shop I knew I wanted to try it out!

It looked difficult, and I am not going to lie, it was a little tricky!

But the finished product is worth the work!

This is the second one I made. It took me about an hour, and I think it turned out pretty cute!

This green one is the first one I made. It took about 2 1/2 hours and didn't turn out quite as I had wished. I made the flower too big for such a small hat. I made the size Small for my 18 month old daughter, and it fit just right.

I am glad I made the first one out of scraps, for practice. With the second one I knew what I was doing a little better. These were the best pictures I could get of them, it is hard to get my daughter to hold still!

It really is a cute pattern, and the sizes go from Itty Bitty to XX Large!

There is no doubt in my mind that the XX large would fit an adult!

Here is the back of the pattern and the fabric requirements. At the bottom it shows the sizes.
(you may have to enlarge it to read it)

I would say that this pattern is more of an intermediate level.

HINTS:

*It calls for a button hole for the flower, but I just skipped that step (because I hate making button holes) and pinned my flower on, and it still worked.

*It also calls for the seem to be in the front of the hat, and I put it on the side, and it didn't make a difference in the construction process.

*If you are making one of the smaller sizes, I would recommend using the two smaller sizes of flowers, instead of using all three. In my first hat (the green one) I used all 3 flower templates and it was just too big, so on the next one I only used the 2 smaller flowers and it worked much better.

* I have never bought a button cover kit, I just used a big button I had laying around and glued some fabric on it. It works!

* If you are a beginner sewer (like me) you may not know what "RST" stand for. It means Right Sides Together. The pattern has this abbreviation in it and it took me a minute to channel back to my high school sewing class to remember what it means :) I am sure you are all laughing at me----that's okay, I deserve it.

Hopefully this helps any of you who are a little scared to try this pattern.

Trust me, if I can do it, YOU CAN DO IT!

I am next going to attempt View B, the boy hat. I will post pictures when I am finished. If you have any questions about this pattern, feel free to email me at asweetbyram@yahoo.com

You can find this pattern in the Patterns Section of the shop. thefabricstore.etsy.com

I will be back tomorrow with some awesome new fabric and patterns we are getting!
